Explosions rocked Kyiv on Thursday following Russia’s overnight ballistic missile attack on the Ukrainian capital, resulting in at least two fatalities and six injuries, according to local officials, reports BritPanorama.
Ukraine’s Air Force reported that at least eight ballistic missiles were launched towards Kyiv, accompanied by waves of Shahed attack drones targeting various cities nationwide. Air raid sirens alerted residents just before 1 a.m. local time, prompting many to seek shelter.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the deaths of two individuals and reported six injuries, including a 16-year-old boy, with at least three injured individuals requiring hospitalization. The attack ignited large fires and caused damage to warehouses and non-residential buildings, with rescue operations ongoing.
In additional reports, officials stated that military actions across several regions, including Odesa, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia, had left at least 14 others dead during the night and previous day.
The missile strikes coincide with a significant political shift in Kyiv, as President Volodymyr Zelensky endorsed Naftogaz chief Sergii Koretskyi to become Ukraine’s next prime minister following the resignation of Yulia Svyrydenko.
