England thrash Croatia 7-0, signals move on from World Cup disappointment

England has emphatically moved on from their World Cup heartbreak, defeating Croatia 7-0 in a match in Rijeka that marked the hosts’ heaviest defeat, reports BritPanorama.

The match took place at Stadion HNK Rijeka, where 6,200 local schoolchildren were admitted for free despite the event being scheduled behind closed doors. This overwhelming win showcased a dominant performance from the Three Lions.

Croatia, recently sanctioned by UEFA for racist and discriminatory behaviour among fans, faced a team in top form. Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka each scored two goals, while Jude Bellingham’s contribution of four goal involvements made him the first England midfielder to achieve such a feat since David Platt against San Marino in 1993. Anthony Gordon and Morgan Rogers also found the net.

Head coach Thomas Tuchel highlighted the use of the extended international break to help the squad process the disappointment from their semi-final loss to Argentina. He acknowledged that the loss initially weighed heavily on the camp but pointed to the quality of England’s performances as a sign of progress.

“If you feel pain you have to lay with the pain. The same with disappointment,” Tuchel explained. He praised the team’s pressing, creativity in possession, and speed on the counter-attack, describing the win as a complete performance.

Kane, who is set to equal Peter Shilton’s record of 125 caps when England host Czechia next, noted that the team’s intensity felt akin to a Premier League contest. Tuchel expressed his satisfaction with how committed his players were to their aggressive approach.

“They just want to play like this, it’s their belief and wish, their conviction. We don’t have to convince them,” he stated. Tuchel also commended midfielder Alex Scott for his impressive showing on his full debut, praising his composure and decision-making against a seasoned opponent like Luka Modrić.

Amid the backdrop of old scars, England’s resounding victory serves as a reminder of their potential, illustrating how quickly perceptions can shift in football. In the ever-demanding arena of international play, this match might be more than just a score; it could mark the beginning of a new chapter for the Three Lions as they look to build momentum ahead of future tournaments.
