Prince Harry remains silent on Earl Spencer's memoir during first public appearance since UK return

In a significant revelation, Earl Spencer has claimed that Queen Elizabeth II offered to restore Princess Diana’s HRH title on the day of her funeral, reports BritPanorama.

In his memoir, Spencer states that just hours after delivering his eulogy at Diana’s funeral, the late Queen’s private secretary, Robert Fellowes, approached him with the offer to reinstate the Princess of Wales’ honorifics. He expressed doubt about his decision to decline this gesture, stating that he believed “the title should never have been removed during her life, in which case it would not have been necessary to offer it to her in death.”

This assertion is one of several contentious claims included in his memoir, Swan Song: Diary, My Sister, which has been serialized in the Daily Mail. Buckingham Palace responded by emphasizing that King Charles is aware “grief can cloud reason,” but members of the royal family have not publicly addressed the claims raised in Spencer’s book.

On the day following these disclosures, the King, along with Prince William and Princess Catherine, engaged in official duties without commenting on the allegations. Additionally, Prince Harry, when approached about his uncle’s book during the inaugural Invictus Spirit Awards in London, refrained from making any remarks regarding Spencer’s reflections on his mother’s legacy.

As this saga unfolds, the impact of Earl Spencer’s revelations continues to resonate within the royal family, highlighting the tension surrounding Diana’s legacy and the perceptions of her treatment during her lifetime.
