Hull City works with police over racial abuse directed at new signing
Hull City are collaborating with Humberside Police to identify individuals responsible for the online racial abuse aimed at new signing Robinio Vaz, reports BritPanorama.
The club condemned the comments directed towards their new player, characterising them as “abhorrent racist abuse.” Such derogatory remarks followed the Frenchman’s recent transfer on deadline day. Hull City confirmed they are working in tandem with the Premier League and the anti-discrimination organisation Kick It Out to address the issue.
In a formal statement, the club said: “Hull City condemns the abhorrent racist abuse directed towards our new signing Robinio Vaz on social media. No individual should ever experience discriminatory abuse, and the club will provide Robinio with our full support.” They also highlighted their zero-tolerance policy towards discrimination and that they are actively engaging with relevant authorities to trace the accounts responsible for this offensive behaviour.
Hull boss Sergej Jakirovic remarked on the matter, noting that Vaz is “fine” despite the negative comments. Jakirovic described the situation as a “disaster” and emphasised the club’s commitment to addressing such issues. He also expressed support for Vaz, who is still acclimatising to his new environment and currently has limited English proficiency.
The club is keen to foster a supportive atmosphere as they move forward. They acknowledged the excitement their supporters share about Vaz’s addition, anticipating his debut at the MKM Stadium. Hull City has made a strong start to their season, having claimed maximum points from their initial league games against Manchester United and Coventry City.
As the Tigers prepare to host Aston Villa, who have yet to score this season, the focus will remain on both securing a strong performance and combating the issues of racism in football.
