Urgent search launched for missing former Premier League footballer Akos Buzsaky
Police have launched an urgent search for former Premier League footballer Akos Buzsaky after he was reported missing in Hungary. The 44-year-old former Queens Park Rangers midfielder has not been seen in Budapest since August 18, meaning his whereabouts have now been unknown for more than a week, reports BritPanorama.
Hungarian authorities have confirmed they are searching for Buzsaky, although no further details have been provided regarding the circumstances of his disappearance. His former club QPR has expressed concern and joined calls for the ex-Hungary international to be found safely.
In a statement, the club said, “The club are concerned to learn that R’s favourite Akos Buzsaky has been reported missing. We’re all praying he’s found safe and well.”
Buzsaky’s father, Akos Buzsaky Sr, indicated he was unaware that police were looking for his son. He explained that the two do not live together and communicate infrequently, as the former footballer spends significant periods working in Greece and had spoken to him just last week when he was at home.
“Since we don’t live under the same roof, it’s not surprising that we only speak less often. The last time I spoke to him was last week,” Buzsaky Sr told a Hungarian outlet. No additional information about Buzsaky’s movements has been released since that conversation.
The retired midfielder is best known to English football supporters for his time at QPR, where he became a popular figure and helped the club reach the Premier League, making 18 appearances in the top flight, scoring two goals and providing two assists. Buzsaky also played for Plymouth Argyle, Portsmouth, and Barnsley before retiring from football in 2025, having earned 20 caps for Hungary as a technically gifted attacking midfielder.
