The founder of ESPN, Bill Rasmussen, has died at the age of 93. The broadcaster confirmed his passing at his home in Florida following the effects of Parkinson’s disease, reports BritPanorama.
Rasmussen launched ESPN on September 7, 1979, alongside his son Scott, serving as the broadcaster’s first president. Under his leadership, ESPN evolved from its initial concept in Connecticut into a pioneering 24-hour national sports network that reshaped sports broadcasting globally.
Tributes have poured in from various corners of the sports world. ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro remarked, “Bill was a remarkable man. A visionary and an innovator who conceived the idea of a network entirely devoted to sports.
