Rodri set for Barcelona move

Manchester City’s Rodri is preparing to leave the club after Barcelona agreed to a deal valued at around £65 million for the Spanish captain, reports BritPanorama.

The 30-year-old midfielder is expected to sign a four-year contract with the La Liga champions, with finalisation of the transfer anticipated within the week.

Rodri, who made 298 appearances for City, played a crucial role during his tenure, securing 12 major honours, including the Premier League and Champions League titles. New City boss Enzo Maresca acknowledged the impact Rodri has had on the team following their recent 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Community Shield.

“Rodri is a player who just won the World Cup and Ballon d’Or. He’s a top player; all teams need a Rodri, so it’s not about if we miss Rodri or not,” Maresca stated.

This transfer is part of a significant reshuffle at the Etihad, with notable departures including Nathan Ake, Bernardo Silva, and John Stones, as well as Manuel Akanji following his loan stint with Inter Milan.

Meanwhile, Tijjani Reijnders appears set to leave the club, while backup goalkeeper James Trafford has moved to Leeds United. So far, City has made only one significant signing, with the acquisition of England international Elliot Anderson for £116 million.

If Rodri’s departure is confirmed, Maresca will need to act swiftly to address the vacancy left by the experienced midfielder. The club is reportedly in advanced talks with 18-year-old Ayyoub Bouaddi, who is keen to join City.

As City navigates a period of transition, focus will remain on how they approach their Premier League opener against Bournemouth at the Etihad, with fresh challenges ahead following a summer of significant change.
