Ellie Taylor takes over hosting duties on It Takes Two
Comedian and former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Ellie Taylor has stepped into the role of host for the spin-off show It Takes Two, succeeding Janette Manrara and Fleur East. Taylor, who is also known for her work on the BBC’s The Mash Report, expressed her excitement about the opportunity, stating, “I love watching Strictly anyway, but to have to really dive into it all for professional reasons is an absolute treat,” reports BritPanorama.
Having appeared as a contestant on Strictly in 2022, where she finished seventh, Taylor is already making her mark, infusing the show with levity as she engages with both celebrities and professional dancers. “It’s such a dream gig for me. It’s all the things I love and all the things I’m good at,” she remarked. Taylor aims to make It Takes Two an integral part of the wider Strictly conversation, acknowledging the vibrant online fan community surrounding the show.
Following viewer feedback, Taylor has been proactive in addressing concerns, quickly introducing professional dancers to the interview panel after fans noted their absence during the initial episodes. She remarked, “Guys don’t worry, I’ve read your comments. As if we would not have any Strictly pros!” This willingness to engage with viewer preferences has contributed to her positive reception thus far, as many have begun calling for her to take over the Saturday night main show.
Despite her exciting new role, Taylor recounted her experience auditioning for the Saturday night show and the subsequent disappointment. “I realised it’s beyond me; there are so many reasons behind decisions that you’ll never know,” she said, reflecting on the professional landscape. “What’s for you won’t pass you,” she continued, maintaining a positive outlook on her career path. Taylor has established herself within the comedy circuit, appearing on numerous panel shows and undertaking several tours, highlighting the skills she has honed over the years.
As she navigates her commitments, including taking over Emma Willis’ Radio 2 show, Taylor is aware of the responsibility her new roles carry. “I’m very respectful, I really don’t take it for granted,” she noted, acknowledging the expectations that come with such prominent positions within the BBC. Despite her public persona, Taylor identifies as an introvert and has learned to manage the pressures that accompany her visibility in the media.
Her daughter remains unimpressed with Taylor’s achievements, a fact she humorously acknowledges. “She watched It Takes Two and said, ‘I thought there’d be more dancing,’” Taylor shared, pointing to her daughter’s exuberant spirit and belief in her own capabilities. Taylor’s ability to balance her burgeoning career alongside motherhood reflects a broader narrative of navigating personal and professional challenges.
Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two airs on BBC Two every weeknight at 6.30pm.
