Dana White criticizes UK boxing scene, claiming 'no ring card girls without ring card boys'

UFC CEO Dana White mocks British boxing

UFC CEO Dana White has stirred controversy by stating that “the UK won’t use ring card girls unless you have ring card boys” during a Zuffa Boxing event, reports BritPanorama.

The comments were made in response to a question posed by content creator Nina-Marie Daniele about the absence of ring card girls at the event. White’s remark has drawn criticism, particularly since the event took place in Dublin, Ireland, prompting fans to chide him for his geographical oversight.

Social media users reacted with sarcasm, highlighting the geographical error. One comment humorously noted, “Ah yes, Dublin, one of the finest cities in the UK,” while another remarked on White’s apparent lack of knowledge in both boxing and geography, calling it “beyond embarrassing.”

Despite White’s assertion, the presence of ring card girls at boxing events in the UK persists, although it has diminished in recent years. Eddie Hearn, chairman of Matchroom Sport, previously affirmed his intent to continue the tradition, stating, “The ring card girls have been a part of boxing history for many, many years.”

The highlight of the Zuffa Boxing 10 event was Irish fighter Aaron McKenna’s victory, winning the IBF world middleweight title in his first professional bout on home soil. He secured a dominant win over Etinosa Oliha, extending his professional record to 21-0, with the judges scoring the fight 118-110, 117-111, and 116-112.

After his victory, McKenna reflected on achieving his childhood dream, remarking, “Since I was six years old, I thought about this moment my whole life… I want to collect every belt in boxing. I’m the best middleweight in the world.” His ambitions follow a burgeoning career that has captured attention in the boxing community.

As the world of boxing continues to evolve, comments like White’s hold a mirror to enduring traditions, revealing just how tightly woven cultural practices remain within the sport and how statements can ignite discussions far beyond the ring.
