Mohamed Salah signs with Trabzonspor
Mohamed Salah has officially completed his surprise move to Trabzonspor after the Turkish club confirmed the former Liverpool star has signed a lucrative two-year contract, reports BritPanorama.
The Egypt international departed Anfield earlier this summer and has now finalized the deal following a successful medical examination. Trabzonspor had been at the center of speculation, with thousands of supporters greeting him upon his arrival in Turkey.
In their announcement via social media, Trabzonspor stated, “Our new signing Mohamed Salah has signed the contract binding him to our club for two years, with the participation of our President Ertugrul Dogan.”
The financial details underline the scale of this transfer, with reports indicating that Salah will earn approximately £14.5 million per season. Additionally, he is set to receive a £4.2 million signing-on bonus, with a clause granting him 20% of profits from sales of his official shirts, reflecting the commercial appeal he brings to the Super Lig club.
Even before the contract was signed, Trabzonspor had begun selling shirts with Salah’s name and iconic No 10. Massive crowds gathered to welcome the player, first at Istanbul’s Ataturk Airport and subsequently in Trabzon.
Upon his arrival, Salah expressed his astonishment at the reception, stating, “I am very happy to be in this incredible atmosphere. I don’t recall ever seeing anything like this before. There are 25,000 people here, it’s incredible. I’ve never seen anything like it.” He also remarked, “I have achieved success everywhere I’ve been, and I want to achieve success at Trabzonspor as well.”
Salah’s future had been a topic of intense speculation after Liverpool indicated in March that he would leave, despite having signed a contract extension just a year earlier. While Saudi Arabian clubs were among the favorites, Trabzonspor ultimately secured one of the biggest transfers in their history.
The Turkish club plans to formally unveil Salah during a signing ceremony at Papara Park, inviting supporters to attend wearing the team’s new home shirt. Salah leaves Liverpool as the club’s third-highest goalscorer, with 255 goals and numerous major honors, including two Premier League titles.
While Salah’s departure is being marked as a significant moment for both the player and the club, Liverpool still faces challenges, having yet to find a direct replacement, although Bradley Barcola is reported to be at the top of their target list.
