Diana, Princess of Wales, died on 31 August 1997 after sustaining catastrophic injuries in a vehicle collision inside the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris. At the time of the crash, she had been seated in the rear of a chauffeur-driven Mercedes without a seatbelt fastened.
