Russia conducts largest ballistic missile attack on Kyiv since start of the war

Ukrainian forces have struck three oil depots and a fuel facility in Russia’s southern Stavropol region this morning, President Volodymyr Zelensky has said, reports BritPanorama.

The Ukrainian president added that three Russian “shadow fleet” tankers were also targeted in the Black Sea.

This offensive follows a significant Russian aerial assault on Kyiv that occurred earlier today, resulting in at least one death and 16 injuries. Ukrainian authorities describe this attack as the largest ballistic missile strike since the onset of the war.

The Kyiv government reported that firefighters were battling blazes in five districts following the strikes, which affected residential buildings, offices, and vehicles, marking one of the most severe attacks in recent weeks.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha revealed that the assault involved “around four dozen” ballistic missiles, the highest number launched in a single operation throughout the conflict.

The attack on Kyiv came just a day after Ukrainian drone strikes targeted warehouses of the Wildberries shopping platform in Russia, leading to fatalities among employees. Zelensky stated that the strikes aimed at crucial logistical facilities, alleging that Wildberries was complicit in supporting the Russian military.

Authorities in Kyiv confirm that the overnight attack included 41 missiles and 125 drones. According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, while 18 missiles and 108 drones were intercepted, some 23 missiles and 10 drones reached active targets. In total, 20 locations sustained damage, with Kyiv being the primary focus.

Describing the events, Acting Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha emphasized the urgent need for strong international responses to counter Moscow’s military actions, underlining that delayed assistance has real human costs.

Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed the strikes aimed at military-related facilities, including those producing drones and components for Neptune missiles. As the situation develops, the scale of Ukraine’s military response highlights an evolving tactical approach amid ongoing hostilities.

The ramifications of these military actions are profound, shaping not only the conflict but also international perceptions and strategic responses. Ukraine’s assertive defense measures underscore a significant chapter in its ongoing struggle for sovereignty and safety.
