England rugby stars take precautions ahead of World Cup semi-final in Argentina
England rugby players are exercising caution in Buenos Aires in light of the upcoming World Cup semi-final against Argentina. The team, managed by Steve Borthwick, will face their opponents on July 18, reports BritPanorama.
Opting for discretion, players have chosen not to wear their national shirts in public, preferring to watch the match from their hotel. Although the Rugby Football Union has not arranged for additional security, England lock Alex Coles emphasised the team’s precautionary measures.
Coles stated, “I think, bearing in mind where we are and who we’re playing with, we’ve been pretty sensible about not wearing our English shirts around too much. We had them all out in Liverpool and got a bit of a better reception than we might do here.”
As the semi-final approaches, England winger Tommy Freeman anticipates a challenging atmosphere should the Three Lions secure a victory. “We’ll see how hostile it gets. It’s big for Argentina and us, and being here it’s heightened massively. I think they’ll probably be angry if we win, so Saturday could be a tough game,” Freeman commented.
Borthwick’s squad is scheduled to depart for Santiago del Estero, where the match will take place. The players express a genuine enthusiasm for football, which Coles noted, highlighting its ability to captivate global audiences. “It’s really special, and I think it’s the sport that I grew up watching first before rugby and cricket; football was the thing I was obsessed with,” he remarked.
With the passion of the Argentine crowd in mind, Coles acknowledged the intensity surrounding the upcoming match, affirming, “We know they’re a passionate country. We are too, and they’ll want to compete to the fullest, and we’ll be ready for that.”
As the tournament progresses, the interplay between football and rugby continues to unfold, creating a riveting narrative that resonates with fans across both sports.
