US says it has completed latest wave of strikes on Iran
US President Donald Trump has launched a new wave of missile strikes on Iranian cities, while Tehran launched fresh attacks on Bahrain, reports BritPanorama.
The US military stated it has completed a five-hour mission, targeting military bases across Iran, including Bushehr, Chah Bahar, Jask, Konarak, Abu Musa, and Bandar Abbas. US troops “employed precision munitions against Iranian coastal defense systems, missile and drone sites, and maritime capabilities.” This latest attack follows the United Arab Emirates’ condemnation of Iran for a “blatant attack” on two Emirati oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in the death of one Indian crew member.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced on Tuesday that two “offending” supertankers had been hit and disabled in the strait for ignoring repeated warnings, turning off navigation systems, and attempting to pass through what the Guard described as a mined route. Concurrently, Bahrain activated air raid sirens at least three times on Tuesday morning as Iran asserted it struck “several weapons storage depots, a satellite communications centre, and a building housing US forces” at the Al-Juffair base.
These renewed strikes coincide with Trump’s announcement of a 20 percent toll on vessels transiting through the strait, a proposal that Iran’s foreign minister has dismissed as impractical.
In related developments, Jordan’s armed forces reported they intercepted and downed four missiles in Jordanian airspace launched from Iran. Meanwhile, the US military’s official death toll in the Iran war has risen to 14 service members, with over 400 wounded, primarily due to traumatic brain injuries sustained during combat operations.
The US embassy in the UAE has cancelled consular appointments from 13-15 July amid heightened regional security concerns and noted that non-emergency personnel have been ordered to leave the country.
As tensions escalate in the region, oil prices surged, reaching a one-month high of $85 per barrel. The increase is attributed to uncertainties surrounding energy flows due to the conflict, marking a significant moment in the ongoing crisis.
