Harry Kane and teammates fooled into signing Declaration of Independence

Harry Kane and several England players were reportedly tricked into signing the Declaration of Independence before their World Cup match against Croatia, reports BritPanorama.

The incident occurred at the Three Lions’ training camp in Kansas City, where players believed they were signing a blank piece of paper.

A prankster on TikTok shared, “I think it’s going to go pretty well,” adding that securing Kane’s signature was particularly desirable. The Declaration of Independence, which established the United States in 1776, was seemingly signed by other squad members including Bukayo Saka, Elliot Anderson, Anthony Gordon, and Jordan Henderson.

As the England team settled into their World Cup base in Kansas, they faced other challenges. Following their relocation from Florida, equipment valued at approximately £13,550 was reported stolen. Two individuals were charged with receiving stolen property, with potential prison sentences of up to seven years.

Police discovered various items, including team merchandise and personal belongings, that had been taken during the transporting of gear to Kansas City. Included in the recovered items were national team shirts, a World Cup ball, and even novelty items such as stuffed lions.

Compounding the team’s difficulties, Tino Livramento has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury. The Newcastle defender sustained a calf problem and will be replaced by Trevoh Chalobah, unexpectedly called up from Chelsea’s ranks.

As the World Cup approaches, this peculiar mix of playful antics and unforeseen setbacks highlights the peculiar narrative surrounding sports and its multifaceted pressures — an affair not just about the pitch, but the stories that unfold off it. In a tournament brimming with expectations, such distractions may well become the stuff of legend.
