Lewis Hamilton advises England fans on World Cup anthems
Lewis Hamilton has called on England fans not to sing the Three Lions’ famous song “It’s Coming Home” too early, reports BritPanorama.
The Formula 1 star, who has remained non-committal about his loyalties to England ahead of the World Cup, was asked for his predictions regarding the tournament. Hamilton expressed a cautious approach, emphasizing, “I don’t have a prediction. I don’t follow it that much, that closely to be honest. I will tune in every now and then.”
He added, “I will always keep a close eye on what England is doing. I just hope they don’t sing ‘It’s Coming Home’ too early, because that’s what we normally do. Sing it once we’ve got it, not before. It’s a great song, but I’m looking forward to seeing the guys in yellow in Brazil. I love watching Brazil.”
Hamilton has articulated his admiration for Brazil, stemming not only from football but also from his appreciation of the late Ayrton Senna, a racing icon who was a significant influence on his career. The three-time world champion remarked on the cultural depth of Brazil, noting, “I just appreciate where they come from. Many of the players come from the streets where they play with no shoes, and there’s something quite special about Brazilian culture.”
His affinity with Brazil was further highlighted by his waving of the Brazilian flag during his victory at Interlagos in 2021. In 2022, Hamilton received honorary Brazilian citizenship, reflecting his strong connection to the nation.
Recent successes with Ferrari have seen Hamilton achieving back-to-back P2 finishes, securing him a prominent position in the driver’s championship. He commented on his performance, stating, “My goal coming to the team was to come in and observe, see if I can bring 20 years of experience, seven championships that I’ve won and input that into an already great organisation and help them level up.”
As he navigates the complexities of competing with Ferrari, Hamilton’s attention remains fixed on the World Cup, blending anticipation with a hint of caution. The interplay between national pride and sporting reality often evokes a spectrum of sentiments, highlighting how easily the world of sport intertwines with national identity. One wonders, as the tournament unfolds, how passion for football might mirror the fervor of the racing circuits, reminding us of the fine line between hope and expectation.
