Violence erupts among PSG supporters during Champions League final

Violent scenes erupted inside Budapest’s Puskas Arena during the Champions League final as Paris Saint-Germain supporters clashed with one another in the stands, reports BritPanorama.

Thousands of fans had travelled from the French capital to witness the showpiece event against Arsenal, but the occasion was marred by fighting during the opening 45 minutes. Stadium security personnel were compelled to enter the PSG section to break up the altercation and restore order among the supporters. The precise reason behind the confrontation remains unclear at this stage.

These disturbances followed earlier violent incidents on Budapest’s streets, where supporters from both clubs had been involved in physical confrontations prior to kick-off. Disorder also gripped the streets of Paris, where the match was being shown on screens at PSG’s home ground, prompting reactions from local authorities concerned about public safety.

Reports indicate that hundreds of fans without tickets attempted to gain access to the Parc des Princes area, leading officers to discharge tear gas to disperse the crowd. Social media footage captured bottles being hurled towards police as they detained at least one individual. France’s Interior Minister Laurent Nunez confirmed the scale of the operation, stating: “There were just under 1,600 checks and about ten arrests.” He added, “There was a brief moment of tension a few minutes ago, with an attempt to force entry into the Parc des Princes stadium… law enforcement had to intervene.”

On the pitch, Arsenal made a dream start to their quest for a maiden Champions League triumph, with Kai Havertz firing home a powerful effort on the counter-attack within the first six minutes. The Gunners’ advantage lasted until shortly after the hour mark when PSG were awarded a spot-kick following a foul by Cristian Mosquera on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia inside the penalty area. Ousmane Dembele stepped up to convert from twelve yards, bringing the French side level at 1-1.

The final remains finely poised as both clubs continue their pursuit of European football’s most prestigious prize, with Arsenal still seeking the first Champions League title in the club’s history.
