Marc Marquez set for MotoGP return at Italian Grand Prix
Marc Marquez will make his return to MotoGP this weekend at the Italian Grand Prix in Mugello after missing the last two races due to injury, reports BritPanorama.
Ducati confirmed Marquez’s participation on Tuesday, stating that the 33-year-old Spaniard will head to the Tuscan circuit tomorrow. However, he must first pass a medical assessment by MotoGP doctors on Thursday in order to compete.
Marquez has faced a challenging few weeks, having not raced since his crash during the Le Mans Sprint on May 8. The incident resulted in a fractured fifth metatarsal in his right foot, necessitating surgery at Ruber International Hospital in Madrid just two days later.
During the operation, doctors also removed two screws from his right shoulder that had been causing discomfort. One of these screws had broken in last October’s collision with Marco Bezzecchi in Indonesia, impacting his riding due to nerve pressure.
Both procedures were successful, and Marquez was discharged from the hospital a fortnight ago. His absence has shifted the championship standings, positioning him 85 points behind leader Marco Bezzecchi heading into Mugello, where he previously achieved significant success by winning both the Sprint and main race last year.
Returning to action just in time for Ducati’s centenary celebration at their home race, Marquez faces a daunting challenge ahead, but with 18 grands prix still to run and 666 points available, a comeback remains within reach. His brother, Alex, however, will not be on the track as he continues to recover from a heavy crash in Barcelona.
As the grid prepares for an electric weekend, the narrative of Marquez’s tenacity and Ducati’s historical significance intertwines, reaffirming the unpredictable yet thrilling nature of MotoGP.
