Marcus Rashford appears to downplay Manchester United in Instagram post
Marcus Rashford seemed to take aim at Manchester United following his call-up to the England squad, reports BritPanorama. The forward expressed gratitude to various managers and clubs, notably omitting any mention of United, as he shared a message on Instagram after being named in the Three Lions’ 26-man squad.
In his post, Rashford thanked Unai Emery, Hansi Flick, Thomas Tuchel, Aston Villa, and Barcelona, concluding with a red heart emoji but conspicuously leaving out Manchester United from his acknowledgments.
Currently, the 28-year-old is aiming for a permanent transfer to Barcelona, which is currently negotiating a financial strategy to lower the player’s price. United insists that the £26 million fee from the initial loan agreement must be met.
This season, Rashford has achieved a commendable tally of 14 goals and 14 assists across all competitions, drawing the attention of German coach Hansi Flick. The forward still has two years remaining on his contract with United, where he earns £325,000 weekly, having spent significant time on loan at both Aston Villa and in Spain.
The deadline for Barcelona to finalize Rashford’s transfer is June 15. His Instagram message coincided with Tuchel’s announcement of the squad, as England prepares for its opening match against Croatia on June 17, followed by games against Ghana and Panama.
England’s squad boasts noteworthy figures including goalkeepers Jordan Pickford of Everton, Dean Henderson from Crystal Palace, and James Trafford of Manchester City. Midfield selections include Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham, and Eberechi Eze, while the attacking line is spearheaded by Harry Kane, Ivan Toney, and, of course, Rashford.
As preparations ramp up, the team will head to Florida for a pre-World Cup training camp, marking a critical time as they shape their strategy for upcoming group stage matches, all of which will take place in the United States, alongside Canada and Mexico.
In the world of football, the intertwining of personal and professional narratives often adds spice to the drama on the pitch. Rashford’s subtle rebuff of United and hopeful gaze towards Barcelona is a reminder that, in football, loyalty is as fluid as the game itself.
