Frank Warren confirms rematch clause in Dubois vs. Wardley bout

Frank Warren has confirmed that a rematch clause exists for Fabio Wardley following his defeat to Daniel Dubois, though the promoter made clear that any second meeting between the heavyweight rivals remains a distant prospect, reports BritPanorama.

Warren, who represents both fighters, stressed the importance of allowing the pair adequate recovery time after their brutal encounter. He indicated that neither boxer should expect to return to action soon, highlighting an extended period away from the ring as essential.

Speaking to talkSport after the bout, Warren stated: “There is a rematch clause, but I don’t think that’ll be happening anytime soon. They’re going to have to be out of the ring for a little while yet. Probably six months at least.”

The promoter praised the fight, describing it as “one of the best shows I’ve ever put on,” a sentiment echoed by many observers who hailed it as one of British boxing’s finest encounters.

In a dramatic contest, Dubois found himself on the canvas in the early rounds, having been floored twice by Wardley. However, the boxer from London showcased a remarkable comeback, effectively establishing his jab and landing significant right hands that left their mark around Wardley’s right eye and nose.

Medical officials monitored Wardley’s condition closely, particularly as the fight escalated. The conclusion came in the eleventh round when a decisive right hand from Dubois prompted referee Howard Foster to halt the fight, prioritizing Wardley’s safety.

Post-fight, Dubois reflected on the intensity of the bout, stating: “It was a war, we went through the sticky moments. Thank you Fabio for that, thank you. I know I’ve got heart, bundles of heart. I’m a warrior in there.”

He also acknowledged Wardley’s performance, saying, “Thank Fabio for a great fight. I thank his team but we move on now. I thank God, all glory to God for this victory. He’s a durable guy, durable warrior, great warrior. Thank you for a great fight man. It was an honor to be in the ring with you.” Dubois expressed his intention to grow from this experience and come back stronger.

This fight serves as a reminder of the fine line in boxing between victory and pushing oneself to the limits, highlighting the spirit of competition in the ring. As the two fighters take their moment to recover, the anticipation for a potential rematch already begins to stir in the minds of fans and pundits alike, showcasing how deeply the sport resonates beyond just the outcomes.
