Luke Littler capitalises on missed match dart to claim Premier League victory

Luke Littler has admitted he ‘pounced’ on Luke Humphries missing a match dart during his Premier League victory in Leeds on Thursday night, reports BritPanorama.

The 19-year-old clinched a record-equalling sixth win in the competition after a thrilling 6-5 final at the First Direct Arena. Earlier in the night, Littler had battled his way past Michael van Gerwen and Jonny Clayton, while Humphries overcame Josh Rock and Stephen Bunting.

The result could have been very different had Humphries capitalised on his match dart, but the world number two came up short. Speaking afterwards, Littler highlighted the significance of this pivotal moment, stating, “Seeing Luke miss for the match was crucial. I pounced on it. But it was another good game between us.”

As a result of this win, Littler now sits five points clear of Clayton at the top of the leaderboard. “I’m very happy with myself and now I can go on to break my own record,” he added. The teenager is showing strong form as he approaches the playoffs at the O2 Arena later this month.

Humphries, while disappointed, now sits in fourth place despite a season riddled with challenges. Pundit John Part praised the competitive nature of this year’s Premier League, expressing regret for Humphries. “These Premier League nights are just so entertaining this year. Every night is exciting,” he commented, referring to the close finishes that have defined many matches.

With Littler, Clayton, and Gerwyn Price occupying the top three spots, the upcoming finals promise to showcase intense competition as stars like van Gerwen, Gian van Veen, Bunting, and Rock appear likely to miss out.

In a sport where every dart matters, Littler’s strategic acumen and Humphries’ missed opportunity serve as poignant reminders of the razor-thin margins that can define success or failure on the oche.
