Paul Gascoigne hospitalised after serious fall

Former England footballer Paul Gascoigne has been rushed to hospital with six broken ribs following a serious fall during the festive period, reports BritPanorama.

The incident led to Gascoigne experiencing intense pain, which he described as “agony,” causing him considerable distress. This marks the second major health scare for the 56-year-old in the past year.

In an interview discussing his condition, Gascoigne recounted the moment of the accident: “I was hanging something up and I fell backwards. I broke six ribs and I punctured a couple of lungs.” He continued, “I go to the hospital and I’m in agony obviously and they give me some pain relief. I just felt my neck getting bigger. I got the surgeon in quickly because I was panicking.”

Gascoigne’s struggle during this incident was evident as he described seeing his late father in the clouds, prompting his panic and urgent request for medical attention. “I was saying, ‘please get the surgeon.’ I was crying my eyes out!” he added, recalling the fear that accompanied his injury.

Gascoigne, affectionately known as “Gazza,” is celebrated as one of the most gifted footballers of his generation. He is well-remembered for his performances in the 1990 World Cup and Euro 96, notably for his memorable goal against Scotland. Off the pitch, his battles with mental health and addiction have been well documented, underscoring the complexities of his public persona.

In a prior health incident last July, Gascoigne was found semi-conscious by a friend at his home in Poole, Dorset, and admitted to intensive care before being moved to an acute medical unit. His friend Steve Foster expressed gratitude for the support received during those challenging times, stating that Gazza appreciates the best wishes from friends and fans alike.

As fans await updates on his recovery, this latest scare serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by those who have long been in the public eye. It highlights both the fragility of health in later years and the enduring connection of a community that continues to rally around one of its iconic figures in sport.

In many ways, Gazza’s journey embodies the bittersweet reality of public life — talent and struggle intertwined, a testament to how sporting prowess doesn’t shield one from life’s harsher challenges.
