Russia launched a massive combined air attack against Ukraine on July 2, using 570 missiles and drones, with the heaviest strikes concentrated on the capital Kyiv, Ukrainian authorities reported. At least 13 people were killed and more than 86 wounded, including children, as residential buildings and civilian infrastructure were hit across multiple districts.

The attack involved four Zircon anti-ship missiles, eight Kalibr cruise missiles, 24 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles, 34 Kh-101 cruise missiles, four Kh-59/69 guided missiles, and 496 attack drones of various types, according to Ukrainian military reports. Kyiv, Dnipro and Kharkiv were targeted, with the main effort directed at the capital and its suburbs.

Damage across Kyiv districts

In the Darnytskyi district, a nine-storey residential building sustained a direct hit, collapsing floors from the first to the sixth. Rescue workers reported people trapped under the debris. A five-storey residential building and a 16-storey high-rise, whose upper floors caught fire, were also damaged, along with private houses.

The Shevchenkivskyi district saw damage to an emergency medical substation and a medical facility, with medical personnel among the injured. Fires broke out in residential and non-residential buildings, including the roof of a residential building and a hotel, as well as a market area.

A fire on the technical floor of a 16-storey residential building was reported in the Holosiivskyi district. In the Pecherskyi district, a nine-storey building was destroyed and lower floors caught fire. A warehouse site burned in the Obolonskyi district. At least two private houses were damaged in the Sviatoshynskyi district, and a nine-storey residential building was damaged in the Desnianskyi district.

Impact on Kyiv region

In the broader Kyiv region, damage was recorded in five districts: Buchanskyi, Brovarskyi, Obukhivskyi, Fastivskyi and Vyshhorodskyi. Warehouses, private houses, a dormitory and vehicles were damaged. In the Buchanskyi district, warehouses and a private house caught fire. In Brovarskyi, several private houses and a dormitory were hit.

Ukraine’s Interior Ministry reported at least 13 killed and more than 30 wounded as of 09:00 local time. The Kyiv City Military Administration put the number of injured at 86, including children, and said the figure was expected to rise.
