German police said on Thursday they were evacuating buildings near a potentially explosive object found on rail tracks in the Bavarian town of Treuchtlingen, reports BritPanorama.
Bavarian police reported that several buildings in the vicinity are being cleared as a precaution, with estimates suggesting that two to three houses are affected to facilitate the safe removal of the object.
Authorities have not specified the nature of the object, but experts are currently examining X-ray images. Residents have been advised to avoid the area, which has been cordoned off.
According to a police statement, “The object is currently being lifted by a robot so that further examinations can be conducted.” The exact details remain unclear, but reports indicate it is an elongated metal object, as stated by the Bild newspaper, although no source for this description was provided.
