Rooney challenges Kane’s defensive praise after Bayern’s thrilling loss
Wayne Rooney has publicly challenged Harry Kane’s assessment of Bayern Munich’s defensive performance following their dramatic 5-4 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-final first leg, reports BritPanorama.
Speaking on Amazon Prime after the match at the Parc des Princes, Kane had described his back line as “outstanding” despite the nine goals scored across both sides. “I thought there was amazing defending even though there were nine goals. Sometimes the forwards will come out on top but the back line was outstanding today,” Kane said.
Rooney swiftly disagreed with his fellow England international’s verdict, asserting, “I love Harry Kane but there is no way he can be praising his defenders. The defending from both teams was really bad, I think he is being modest there.”
The encounter between Europe’s two most prolific attacking sides delivered the entertainment the expectant Parisian crowd had anticipated. Kane opened the scoring from the penalty spot after William Pacho fouled Luis Diaz inside the area.
