Thomas Tuchel discusses Harry Kane’s Ballon d’Or prospects
Thomas Tuchel has shared his perspective on Harry Kane’s chances of winning the Ballon d’Or following an outstanding season. The England captain scored 73 goals for club and country and contributed to Bayern Munich’s success in the Bundesliga, German Cup, and German Super Cup, reports BritPanorama.
Kane’s performances also played a significant role in helping England secure a third-place finish at the World Cup, marking the nation’s best result in the tournament since their victory 60 years ago.
As the bookmakers’ favourite for the award, Tuchel expressed confidence that Kane will be the first English player to win since Michael Owen in 2001. When asked if he would choose Kane for the accolade, Tuchel responded positively, stating, “Yeah. After this season, yeah.”
Tuchel highlighted Kane’s impressive statistics, including scoring over 70 goals and winning three titles with Bayern Munich, as well as reaching the semi-finals in both the World Cup and the Champions League. “He’s getting better and better,” Tuchel noted. “I think he added a level of physicality to his match. He’s just so committed to high press and to being involved in every part of the match.
Kane, already England’s all-time leading scorer, is poised to equal Peter Shilton’s record of 125 appearances for the men’s national team, should he play all four Nations League matches. Reflecting on his journey, Kane remarked, “I’d be extremely proud to win it. I think I’m definitely in the running to win it, without a doubt, so time will tell; the voters will vote for who they want.”
He added that the accolades come with humility, acknowledging the pride he feels when others, including teammates and former players, commend his achievements. Tuchel’s squad prepares for four matches during the international break, starting with a fixture against Spain on Saturday.
England’s immediate focus will be on facing the Czech Republic on September 29, followed by encounters against Croatia on October 3, and the Czechs again on October 6, as they look to bounce back from their Euro 2024 final defeat to World Champions Spain.
