Stars gather to celebrate Pep Guardiola's departure from Manchester City

Pep Guardiola bids farewell at emotional leaving party

Pep Guardiola concluded his decade-long tenure as Manchester City manager with a poignant farewell event attended by sporting icons including Michael Jordan, Noel Gallagher, and Tommy Fleetwood, reports BritPanorama.

Guardiola, who announced his departure from the club last week, was celebrated in front of a packed audience of 19,000 supporters at the Co-Op Live arena. In a heartfelt video message, Jordan praised Guardiola for his remarkable coaching career, stating, “I just wanted to congratulate you on an unbelievable career. Enjoy your retirement. Good luck on the links and keep them straight. Congratulations.”

Fleetwood echoed these sentiments, expressing gratitude and respect for Guardiola: “You deserve whatever you are about to do next. It is an honour to call you a friend and congratulations. You have been amazing.” Gallagher joined Guardiola for a candid conversation that engaged the crowd.

In his speech, Guardiola reflected on the strong connection he shared with the club and its supporters: “I feel tonight that really shows the connection this club has… Thank you so much, I don’t have enough gratitude. Always, for the rest of my life, I will have you in my heart.” Prior to the event, thousands of fans lined the streets of Manchester to bid their final farewells.

Several former City players, including Vincent Kompany, Fernandinho, Ederson, and current players Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland also attended the event. Haaland spoke on stage, acknowledging the contributions of departing captain Bernardo Silva and defender John Stones, saying, “It has been a pleasure to play with Bernardo and John – and of course Pep. We won a lot of trophies, and I was happy to play with Bernardo and John because they are amazing footballers, but even better people deep down.”

Guardiola’s departure marks the end of an era for Manchester City, during which he transformed the club into a dominant force in English and European football, heralding a period of unprecedented success. His final act as a manager was delivering an emotional address to fans after the team’s last game of the season, where he remarked, “I never expected to be here for 10 years. Manchester became my home. It has been a huge honour to represent this club. Every decision I took, even with all the mistakes, I always thought about what was best for this club. I love you so much.”

As Guardiola steps away from the touchline, his legacy at Manchester City remains firmly etched in the club’s history. In a sport where the sweetest victories often come with a dose of bittersweet farewells, this moment serves as a reminder of how the tides can so swiftly turn, leaving those who loved and led to ponder over the next chapter.
