Disruption at the World Snooker Championship final

The woman who disrupted the World Snooker Championship final at the Crucible on Sunday has been identified as an adult content creator known as “Sasha Swan”, reports BritPanorama.

Swan interrupted the match between Shaun Murphy and Wu Yize during the third frame, after vaulting over barriers and rushing towards the table while vocally protesting the TV licence fee.

Security personnel acted quickly, with three staff members managing to intercept her before she reached the playing area, subsequently ejecting her from the venue. The audience expressed their disapproval, booing the protest and applauding once Swan was removed from the arena.

Referee Rob Spencer was seen blocking Swan’s path during the incident, which Swan later reshared on social media with a provocative caption. In her video follow-up, she confirmed her role in the disruption, stating: “Yeah it was me, I did streak the snooker with my team,” while expressing strong discontent towards the BBC and the sport itself.

Swan was unapologetic about her actions, declaring, “Nobody pays their TV licence. I don’t care. F*** the BBC, f*** the snooker, f*** everybody.” Despite her critique of snooker, she professed admiration for snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan.

This scenario has drawn similarities to a previous protest during the 2023 World Championship, when an activist disrupted play by scattering orange powder across the table, raising questions about security protocols at the venue. Murphy reached the final after a close victory over John Higgins, while Wu advanced by defeating Mark Allen in a tight match.

Amid the chaos, the focus on this year’s championship reflects society’s ongoing tensions around media and entertainment, reminding us that even in the realm of sports, issues of public concern can take centre stage in unexpected ways.
