Pierre Gasly’s Monaco podium stripped by pit-lane penalties
Formula 1 star Pierre Gasly admitted he was “heartbroken” to have his podium finish at the Monaco Grand Prix taken away from him due to two pit-lane speeding penalties, reports BritPanorama.
Gasly benefited from a chaotic race, moving from ninth to fourth and then up to third after George Russell received a late drive-through penalty. However, the Frenchman faced penalties for being recorded at 0.1km/h and 0.4km/h over the mandated 60km/h pit-lane speed limit.
After the race, Gasly expressed his disappointment: “Right now, I’m just heartbroken. I don’t know what to say. I don’t want to be speaking right now.” He added, “We all work so hard to get these moments, and then when it gets taken away from you for some things which we need to review.” Gasly’s team, Alpine, confirmed it has requested a Right of Review from the FIA regarding the penalties imposed.
Ultimately, Gasly finished in seventh place, with fellow Frenchman Isack Hadjar claiming third. On social media, Gasly shared his feelings of devastation: “No words can describe the pain of losing a podium in Formula 1 and in the streets of Monaco.” He expressed hope for a fair outcome and stated, “We crossed the finish line in 3rd today, and that’s all I want to remember.”
Throughout the race, several drivers faced penalties, including Oscar Piastri, Lewis Hamilton, and Sergio Perez. Kimi Antonelli emerged victorious, continuing an impressive season that has seen him win five out of six races, extending his lead in the standings.
As the dust settles on another enthralling Monaco Grand Prix, fans and drivers alike are left to ponder how the finest details in racing can overshadow what had seemed a glorious triumph; it highlights the fine line between rule and sport, reminding us just how swiftly fortunes can shift in the world of Formula 1.
