Norway to take on England in World Cup quarter-final

Martin Odegaard stated that Norway will take the game to England in their upcoming World Cup quarter-final, labelling his side as the “underdogs” while expressing confidence they can replicate their impressive 2-1 victory against Brazil, reports BritPanorama.

Odegaard emphasised the quality of the England team, noting their world-class players and strong performances, stating, “Obviously we know the quality they have. I know them really well. Outstanding players, world-class players, playing for probably one of the best national teams in the world at the moment, so it’s going to be a big test for us.”

He acknowledged that while they are seen as underdogs, the same label was applied during their match against Brazil, where they overcame the odds. “I think Brazil was the same. We were the underdogs and, as you saw, anything can happen in football,” he added, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the sport.

The match, scheduled for 10pm on Saturday evening, will determine who advances to the semi-finals against either Argentina or Switzerland. Norway trained at Inter Miami’s facilities in Fort Lauderdale following their arrival in Florida on Tuesday, while England has remained at their base in Kansas City until Friday.

Odegaard also addressed the extreme weather conditions saying, “I think it’s a big change for all of us. We’re from Norway, so we’re not used to this type of weather. But I think the good thing is we’ve been here for a while now.” He mentioned that the team is now accustomed to the climate, contrasting it with their earlier matches that led to a few cramps but noted, “apart from that, yeah, I think it’s going well.”

The main threat for England to contend with will be Norway’s star striker Erling Haaland, who has already scored seven goals in this World Cup thus far. His performance was key to Norway’s advancement after a standout display against Brazil, raising questions about how England’s defence will handle his attacking prowess.

As both teams prepare for this high-stakes encounter, the narrative unfolds around the clash of expectation and reality, making it one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament.
