Manchester United in talks over Bruno Fernandes’ contract amid Galatasaray interest

Manchester United have opened talks with Bruno Fernandes over a new contract after Galatasaray launched an ambitious attempt to lure the club captain away from Old Trafford, reports BritPanorama.

The Turkish champions have proposed a lucrative four-year deal worth approximately £18.3 million per season, tax-free, as they aim to secure the Portugal international as their marquee signing. Furthermore, Galatasaray is reportedly planning to offer an additional £3 million as a signing bonus, while a transfer bid around £42.8 million has been considered.

Despite these enticing financial incentives, Fernandes has expressed a preference to remain at United, where he is viewed as a crucial figure within the squad. The 31-year-old’s current contract is in its final year, yet United retain the option to extend his deal by an additional twelve months.

Early discussions regarding fresh terms have occurred, with reports indicating United’s eagerness to secure Fernandes’ long-term future. There is currently no immediate pressure to finalize negotiations, considering the extra year available to the club.

Fernandes signed his previous contract in 2024, and a £57 million release clause for overseas clubs recently expired. United have no intention of considering offers for their skipper and have yet to receive a formal approach despite Galatasaray’s interest. The Turkish club’s president Dursun Ozbek is significantly involved in this transfer pursuit, striving for what would be a notable acquisition.

Should Fernandes move to Istanbul, he could substantially elevate his earnings given Turkey’s tax framework. However, previous lucrative opportunities have not swayed his commitment to Manchester United. Earlier this summer, he rejected a hefty proposal from Al Hilal, reportedly worth around £100 million, where he could have earned up to £700,000 weekly.

Ultimately, Fernandes remained with United, influenced by former manager Ruben Amorim, who encouraged him to stay and evaluate whether the club could meet his ambitions. The midfielder has consistently demonstrated his importance to United, playing a vital role in the team’s return to Champions League football and earning the Premier League Player of the Season accolade for his contributions.

As the transfer window progresses, speculation around his future continues, with other clubs like Juventus and AC Milan also reportedly interested. United’s commitment to retaining Fernandes comes amid criticism of their transfer market activity, having so far invested around £85 million to bring in players such as Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos.

In a sport where loyalty and ambition often clash, Fernandes’ situation encapsulates a critical choice for a player whose talents have drawn worldwide attention. How he navigates these crossroads may well shape not just his own legacy, but also that of Manchester United in the coming season.
