Luke Humphries engages with fan after World Grand Prix victory
Luke Humphries has taken aim at a fan in the crowd following his victory in the World Grand Prix, reports BritPanorama.
Following a hard-fought 2-0 win over Dave Chisnall, Humphries celebrated by shushing an individual in attendance. After taking out D4, he pointed and gave a thumbs-up to the fan, appearing to laugh and direct comments towards them before shaking hands with Chisnall as he progressed to the second round.
Despite the victory, Humphries acknowledged his performance was below par. Averaging only 80.41, the world No. 2 described the match as “arguably one of the worst performances I’ve played on the World Grand Prix stage.” He noted that his doubles were not going in initially, and the scoring was poor, remarking, “Chizzy just wasn’t at his best there at all,” but expressed relief at moving through.
After Luke Littler’s unexpected exit from the tournament, Humphries has emerged as a favourite to win this year’s Grand Prix. Reflecting on Littler’s defeat to Luke Woodhouse, he stated, “I hate it when he loses because it always puts the pressure on myself and then everyone is like ‘this is yours to win.'” He admitted the added pressure does not benefit him, as he prefers to see Littler in the finals.
Humphries, keen to secure his first major title after being a runner-up in multiple finals, emphasized the need to improve, saying, “It’s up to me to win another four games and perform a lot better than that, because if I perform that again, I’ll be very lucky to make it to the quarters and semis.” He remains focused on his upcoming match against Jermaine Wattimena and is hopeful for a better performance.
