Liverpool set to appoint Andoni Iraola following Slot’s departure

Liverpool have reached an agreement in principle with Andoni Iraola, just days after Arne Slot was relieved of his duties, reports BritPanorama.

The decision to part ways with Slot comes only 12 months after he guided the club to Premier League title glory. This swift change underscores the high expectations surrounding the club’s management amidst recent performances.

Iraola, who is currently a free agent after his exit from Bournemouth, was seen as the frontrunner to take over. His potential appointment has gained momentum in the past 48 hours, confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

During his tenure at Bournemouth, Iraola successfully led the team to 12th in his first season and further improved their standing to ninth the following campaign. Last season, the club achieved a sixth-place finish, securing a coveted spot in European competition despite losing key players.

Liverpool’s search for a new head coach wasn’t limited to Iraola. AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen had also shown interest, but both clubs appear to be on the verge of missing out on his services. Chelsea, however, opted for Xabi Alonso as their permanent replacement for Liam Rosenior instead of pursuing Iraola.

In the backdrop of this managerial shift, Liverpool is set for significant changes this summer. Iconic players such as Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson are expected to leave, while Ibrahima Konate is confirmed to be departing following unsuccessful contract negotiations. Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly leading the race for the centre-back’s signature.

Slot has expressed his feelings towards the support he received from fans, stating he believes better times lie ahead for the club. He acknowledged the high expectations at Liverpool and highlighted the importance of securing Champions League football for the team’s competitiveness moving forward.

This new chapter at Liverpool presents both challenges and opportunities. As the club navigates this transitional period, the arrival of Iraola could signal a shift in style and strategy, renewing hopes among supporters for continued success in the future.
