Liverpool faces crisis after 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace

If Liverpool weren’t in a crisis before last night’s chastening 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, then they certainly are now, reports BritPanorama.

On Wednesday evening, Crystal Palace demonstrated their dominance, overcoming a weakened Liverpool side at Anfield. Ismaila Sarr starred for the visitors with two goals, while Yeremy Pino capped the night with a late third after Liverpool’s Amara Nallo was sent off.

The decision by Liverpool manager Arne Slot to rotate his squad—resting key players such as Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Alexander Isak, and Florian Wirtz—left many questioning his judgement. With six defeats in their last seven matches across all competitions, the crisis at Liverpool has deepened.

Notably, Liverpool’s struggles this season have been apparent since their hiccup at Selhurst Park, where Palace first defeated them 2-1 at the end of September. Despite early victories against Bournemouth, Newcastle, and Arsenal, those wins were seen as fortunate at best.

The recent string of negative results includes a loss to Galatasaray in Europe, alongside Premier League defeats against Chelsea, Manchester United, Brentford, and now Crystal Palace. The team’s form continues to deteriorate, revealing deeper issues.

Concerns are also surfacing about the performance of new signings. Florian Wirtz has had a disappointing start, while Alexander Isak has scored only once since his high-profile transfer to the club. The veteran duo of Salah and Van Dijk show signs of age catching up, further complicating the situation.

Many believe that Liverpool’s slump is rooted in a growing confidence crisis, as the team’s usual invincibility gives way to vulnerability. Yet, even amid increasing criticism, the club appears to be backing Slot, opting against making hasty decisions regarding his future.

Historically, however, a successful season does not guarantee job security for managers. Comparisons were made to José Mourinho’s abrupt departure from Chelsea shortly after winning the league in 2015, underscoring that all is still far from well in Liverpool.

The coming match against Aston Villa on Saturday holds significant importance for the club and Slot, presenting an opportunity to begin reversing their troubling trajectory. How Liverpool responds could define the remainder of their season and the tenure of their manager.

As tension mounts and expectations weigh heavily, one can only wonder if the Reds can find their footing again, reminding us just how swiftly fortunes can shift in football.
