Kobbie Mainoo signs long-term deal with Manchester United

Kobbie Mainoo has finalised terms on a new long-term deal at Manchester United that will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2031, reports BritPanorama.

The England midfielder’s fresh contract includes an improved salary package, with negotiations between his representatives and the club’s hierarchy having concluded after several weeks of discussions.

Fabrizio Romano announced on X: “BREAKING: Kobbie Mainoo has agreed all terms of [a] new contract at Man United, all set to sign!” The deal is expected to become official before the current campaign concludes, with the 20-year-old potentially putting pen to paper as early as this week.

Mainoo’s future at his boyhood club had appeared uncertain in recent months, with speculation surrounding a potential departure intensifying during both the summer and January transfer windows. Under former manager Ruben Amorim, Mainoo found himself marginalised and struggling for regular game time at Old Trafford.

However, the midfielder’s fortunes have transformed dramatically since Michael Carrick took charge on an interim basis. Carrick’s appointment has seen Mainoo reclaim a central role in the side, delivering a series of outstanding displays that have reminded supporters of his considerable talent and convinced the club to secure his long-term commitment.

Following United’s 2-1 victory against Brentford on Monday evening, Mainoo spoke to Sky Sports about his resurgence, stating: “I’ve loved every minute of it, especially under the boss now. Just feeling the confidence.”

The academy graduate’s existing terms were set to run until 2027 before this new agreement was reached. With Casemiro departing the club this summer, and Manuel Ugarte poised to be sold, Mainoo will assume greater responsibility in the engine room next season.

United are looking to sign several midfielders this summer. Elliot Anderson is on their radar, though Manchester City are also eyeing the Nottingham Forest star. United have also been linked with Aurélien Tchouaméni, whose future at Real Madrid is currently shrouded in uncertainty. Sandro Tonali and Carlos Baleba, of Newcastle and Brighton respectively, are also under consideration.

With Mainoo’s commitment secured, Manchester United will be keen to build their midfield around the young standout, whose journey reflects both personal grit and the broader evolution of the club as it seeks to redefine its ambitions under new leadership.
