Jose Mourinho set to manage Real Madrid if Florentino Perez wins elections
Jose Mourinho has confirmed his willingness to become the manager of Real Madrid, contingent on the victory of the club’s president, Florentino Perez, in the upcoming elections, reports BritPanorama.
The 63-year-old Portuguese manager made a brief appearance in a video, donning a Real Madrid shirt and saying “Si” to the camera, signalling his intent. The footage concluded with a call to action, “Vota Florentino 2026,” urging fans to support Perez’s candidacy alongside a melody of the club’s anthem, “Hala Madrid.”
Mourinho, who recently left Benfica after leading them to an unbeaten league season, may be unveiled as Real’s coach on June 7 if Perez secures his position. This would mark a return to the club, where he successfully managed from 2010 to 2013, clinching La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup during his tenure.
This season has proven challenging for Real Madrid, culminating in a disappointing campaign without trophies and a 2-0 defeat to Barcelona in El Clasico, which resulted in their rivals clinching the league title. In highlighting Mourinho’s previous achievements, he enjoyed significant success earlier in his career, including leading Porto to a Champions League triumph in 2004 and managing teams like Chelsea, Inter Milan, and Roma, collecting a total of 26 major trophies.
With Real Madrid in need of revitalisation, Mourinho’s potential appointment would undoubtedly bring high expectations. Yet, as he returns to a familiar stage, many will be watching closely, scrutinising how past triumphs translate into future success in a club where winning is the only acceptable outcome.
As always, football oscillates between triumph and despair, reminding us that anticipation often accompanies change, whether welcomed or feared.
