Gary Neville signs streaming deal with Disney+
The streaming landscape is witnessing a significant clash as Disney+ has secured rights to Gary Neville’s Stick to Football podcast in a multimillion-pound deal, marking a direct challenge to Gary Lineker’s The Rest is Football on Netflix, reports BritPanorama.
Lineker’s show, produced by Goalhanger, secured a substantial £14 million deal with Netflix and garnered a two-year extension following its success during the World Cup. The podcast has become a formidable player, achieving a consistent presence in Netflix’s daily top 10 throughout its run.
Neville’s partnership with Disney+ is framed as a heavyweight response, with both shows set to debut within the same timeframe as the new Premier League season. The agreement with Disney+ includes exclusive rights to 20 episodes along with additional content featuring prominent football figures such as Jamie Carragher and Roy Keane.
Fans can look forward to a total of 40 episodes of Stick to Football this season, alongside a new spin-off called Stick to United, co-hosted by Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney and content creator Mark Goldbridge. This podcast is poised for 50 episodes, launching soon.
Neville expressed pride in aligning with Disney+, noting the potential to broaden their audience without compromising the essence of their content. Meanwhile, Rooney emphasized the collaboration as a natural development of their previous engagements. The competitive nature of these two major podcasts is evident, with tensions surfacing as both camps have not shied away from making pointed remarks.
Lineker has dismissed the competition, claiming that while his podcast stands out in quality, Neville’s show primarily exists on YouTube rather than as a true podcast. However, the audience numbers suggest a more nuanced scenario, with Neville’s The Overlap claiming 1.75 million YouTube subscribers in 2025, whilst Lineker’s podcast cites seven million monthly listeners.
For viewers deliberating which service to subscribe to, Disney+ offers its premium subscription at £14.99 per month, while Netflix’s premium tier is priced at £18.99. Both podcasts have managed to influence discussions within the football sphere, often leading their hosts into controversial territory.
With the upcoming relaunch of both shows this month, the rivalry between Gary Neville and Gary Lineker promises to captivate audiences, setting the stage for an engaging season ahead.
