Ethan Nwaneri receives World Cup call-up for England
Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri has been given a late call-up to join England’s World Cup squad, reports BritPanorama.
The 19-year-old will set off to the USA with the Three Lions for their preparation camp ahead of the tournament.
Thomas Tuchel brought in Nwaneri, who has spent the second half of the season on loan at Ligue 1 side Marseille. He is among several young players making their mark in English football, joining Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, Fulham’s Josh King, and Liverpool’s Rio Ngumoha.
Scott, King, and Ngumoha’s participation was confirmed alongside Nwaneri on Friday, as Tuchel announced his 26-man squad for the finals. England’s official account confirmed the news, stating: “Ethan Nwaneri will join our Three Lions preparation camp in Florida ahead of the FIFA World Cup.”
The teenager made a dozen senior appearances for the Gunners this season before heading to France. The England squad is set to meet in Palm Beach on June 1, with players involved in the Champions League and Conference League finals joining the team later.
Tuchel’s side plans to play two matches before moving to their tournament base in Kansas City on June 13, facing New Zealand in Tampa and Costa Rica in Orlando to prepare for their group-stage games. England begins their tournament against Croatia on June 17, followed by matches against Ghana and Panama.
With a young and talented squad, Nwaneri’s inclusion highlights the potential within English football, as Tuchel aims to balance youth with experience for the World Cup campaign. The anticipation builds as England looks to make an impact on the global stage, and with such emerging talents, the excitement among fans is palpable.
As the tournament unfolds, the narrative of under-21 players stepping into the limelight is a reminder of how fresh talent can invigorate a campaign. It’s a blend of hope and expectation that hangs in the air, waiting to see if this youthful energy translates into World Cup success.
