Drink driver jailed after motorway crash leaves footballer with life-changing injuries

A drink driver has been jailed for more than two years after a footballer lost his leg in a “terrible collision” on a motorway, police have confirmed, reports BritPanorama.

Anna Malgorzata Bogusiewicz, 45, faced charges of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drink driving following the incident on February 1, 2025. Officers were called to the M27 near Ower, Hampshire, at 10.25pm to reports of a serious collision.

Bogusiewicz crashed her Mercedes into a parked VW Golf on the hard shoulder. At the time, 31-year-old Jordan Chiedozie was inspecting a flat tyre on the Golf, having returned from a match with Southern League side Bashley. His injuries were catastrophic; he lost his leg and was placed in an induced coma, according to Hampshire Police.

On Friday, Bogusiewicz, a resident of Wraysbury, Berkshire, was sentenced to two years and four months in prison at Southampton Crown Court. She was also disqualified from driving for three years. Chiedozie had been an academy player for AFC Bournemouth from 2007, before loan spells and a subsequent transfer in 2014.

Detective Constable Joy Jarvis stated, “There is absolutely no excuse for getting behind the wheel of any vehicle when you are impaired from drinking alcohol.” Mr Chiedozie expressed the profound impact of the accident, revealing in a victim impact statement that he was left drifting in and out of consciousness while trying to crawl after being hit.

He recounted asking a doctor, “Have I really lost my leg?” reflecting on his new reality as he navigates life with significant challenges. He lamented, “Before, my life was simple… now every single thing is difficult,” underscoring the lasting impact this incident has wrought upon him.

Chiedozie also noted, “I would love my life to be normal again, but it won’t ever be because of one day that changed everything.” His physio, Reighan Taylor, who provided him with a lift home from the match, reported that while she was not physically injured, she has struggled to sleep after witnessing the aftermath of the crash.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangerous consequences of impaired driving and the lasting effects such decisions can have on individuals and their families.
