Chelsea mocks Arsenal following Champions League defeat
Chelsea took to social media to taunt their London rivals shortly after Arsenal’s loss in the Champions League final, reports BritPanorama.
The post on Instagram promoted tours of Stamford Bridge, branding it “London’s Home of Trophies,” as Arsenal were reeling from a heartbreaking defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, losing 4-3 in a penalty shootout.
This timing proved particularly sensitive given that the match had been Arsenal’s opportunity to secure their first-ever Champions League title. Chelsea’s post juxtaposed their own past successes, featuring images of their Champions League and Club World Cup trophies, along with banners proclaiming “London’s finest” and “Pride of London.”
During the final, Arsenal initially appeared to be in control, taking the lead with a goal from Kai Havertz in the sixth minute. PSG struggled to respond through much of the first half. However, the tide turned when Ousmane Dembele equalised through a penalty after a foul in the box.
Extra time could not separate the teams, and a tense shootout followed. Arsenal’s Eberechi Eze missed the second penalty for the Gunners, while David Raya saved from Nuno Mendes, keeping hope alive temporarily. Unfortunately for Arsenal, Gabriel Magalhaes failed to score, sending his attempt over the crossbar.
Chelsea, having defeated Bayern Munich in a penalty shootout to claim their own Champions League title in 2012, was aware of the drama that unfolded at the end of the match.
Despite their historical victories, Chelsea’s current season ended poorly, finishing in 10th place in the Premier League and consequently missing out on European football next term. This scenario highlights a contrasting situation for both clubs: while Arsenal grieves a missed opportunity, Chelsea reflects on their own challenges. A reminder of how rivalries can stir even when both teams sit on different points of success.
