Anthony Joshua’s driver charged after deadly crash in Nigeria
Anthony Joshua’s driver has been charged over the car crash that took the life of two people and injured the former boxing world champion in Nigeria, reports BritPanorama.
Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, was charged at the Sagamu Magistrate Court earlier today. According to a statement from Ogun State Police, the case has been adjourned to 20th January 2026.
The British boxer was involved in the deadly crash at 11 am on Monday on the hazardous Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Makun, where he was travelling to his family residence in Sagamu for New Year festivities.
The Lexus 4×4, reportedly travelling at high speed, lost control and collided with a stationary lorry, tearing open the passenger side of the vehicle. Joshua and his locally hired driver managed to escape, although video footage showed the boxer in visible distress as rescuers helped him from the wreckage, reportedly complaining of severe leg pain.
Tragically, his strength and conditioning coach Sina Ghami and personal trainer Latif “Latz” Ayodele, both aged 36, were killed instantly as they occupied seats on the impact side of the car.
Since the incident, Joshua has made what has been described as a “miracle recovery” following a stay in hospital. The 36-year-old former world heavyweight champion reportedly sustained no fractures and was soon discharged, according to a Government statement.
In a sobering reminder of the dangers of road travel, even for those accustomed to the spotlight, this incident underscores the fragility of life — a stark contrast to the ring’s fierce exhilaration. As Joshua recovers, the streets remain unforgiving, indifferent to fame or fortune.
