Anthony Gordon targeted by multiple clubs ahead of World Cup
England star Anthony Gordon has been targeted by three clubs ahead of his World Cup bid this summer, reports BritPanorama.
The Newcastle winger appears to be open to leaving Newcastle, who currently sit 14th in the Premier League but are only five points from the European places. Arsenal and Bayern Munich are closely monitoring him as the summer transfer window approaches.
Liverpool also seem to be rekindling their interest in the former Everton player, after having nearly signed him in 2024. Gordon is keen to explore his options, but the club is unlikely to accept anything less than £80 million for the forward.
Arsenal has previously made a bid of £75 million, indicating their strong interest, while Bayern is reportedly considering an offer of up to £60 million. Liverpool might return to the negotiating table after Mohamed Salah’s announced departure this summer, having already offloaded Luiz Diaz and Darwin Nunez in the previous year.
This season, Gordon has featured 26 times for Newcastle, scoring six goals and providing two assists in the Premier League. His performance in the Champions League has been particularly noteworthy, where he has scored 10 goals, placing him third in the competition’s scoring charts, trailing only Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane.
While Newcastle has not received an official request for a transfer from Gordon, they are preparing for potential bids as he gears up for the World Cup in North America.
Gordon, under contract until 2030, has remained professional amid the speculation surrounding his future. Although 14th place is disappointing for Eddie Howe’s side, they are just five points off Brentford in seventh and six points behind Chelsea in sixth.
In their recent outing, Newcastle suffered a 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace despite leading until the 80th minute. It’s a challenging run for Howe’s team, but optimism remains with a series of winnable matches on the horizon. This includes a home fixture against Bournemouth and a trip to face Arsenal before a promising May schedule against Brighton, Nottingham Forest, West Ham, and Fulham.
Amidst all the speculation, one thing is clear: as the World Cup approaches, both Gordon and Newcastle face pivotal decisions that could shape their futures significantly.
