Ty from AFTV involved in heated confrontation at Sunderland
Taiwo Ogunlabi, widely recognised by football supporters as Ty from the YouTube channel AFTV, was involved in a heated confrontation with a steward following Arsenal’s 2-2 draw away at Sunderland on Saturday night, reports BritPanorama.
The well-known fan, celebrated for his unwavering optimism regardless of Arsenal’s form, appeared visibly agitated as he engaged in an argument with home supporters shortly after the final whistle. Footage circulating on social media shows the confrontation escalating, with a steward seen holding Ty forcefully and appearing to grip him near the throat as he attempted to push away from Sunderland fans.
The images prompted immediate reactions online, with many questioning the nature of the restraint used. Discussions ranged from the cause of the clash to whether Ty had initiated or merely responded to provocation from opposing supporters.
AFTV, launched in 2013 under the name Arsenal Fan TV, has evolved into a major platform for capturing supporter reaction. Ty, one of the most recognisable personalities associated with the channel, is known for his defence of Arsenal despite often turbulent performances.
In the match itself, Arsenal entered the north east on a ten-match winning streak, but their confidence was shaken when Sunderland took the lead through Dan Ballard after 36 minutes. Arsenal responded in the second half with a strong performance, equalising through Bukayo Saka and later taking the lead with a strike from Leandro Trossard.
However, Sunderland’s Brian Brobbey equalised deep into stoppage time, leading to jubilant celebrations and leaving Arsenal to reflect on crucial points dropped in the Premier League title race.
It remains unclear what instigated the altercation involving Ty, as video shows him being escorted out of the stadium precinct while raising his voice. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed his disappointment at not being able to secure the win, acknowledging the challenges faced during a difficult match.
“It’s a disappointment and frustration, because we wanted the three points,” Arteta stated. “We had to navigate through a tough game. We knew that. They were very disruptive.”
This incident serves as a reminder of the intense emotions that surround football and how they can manifest in various ways, reflecting the fine line that separates fan engagement from confrontation.
