Ukraine struck a Russian rocket and space centre in Samara using flamingo missiles, President Volodymyr Zelensky has said, reports BritPanorama.
The military also attacked the Savasleyka military airfield, a base for Russian fighter jets, according to Zelensky, who highlighted “new significant results” from these deep strikes.
“A good achievement. The distance from our border is about 900 kilometres,” he remarked regarding the Samara strike. “Our plan of long-range sanctions against Russia for this war is being implemented, and it is important that Russia’s war potential be reduced. Peace is needed, and this must be evident in Russia – through concrete damage to specific facilities.”
This escalation follows the scrambling of NATO jets after a drone entered Latvia’s airspace during Ukrainian attacks on Russian ports, authorities reported. Two Italian Eurofighter jets took off from Lithuania and two Turkish F-16s were scrambled from a base in Estonia in response, according to NATO spokesperson Allison Hart.
On the wider campaign, Zelensky shared footage of long-range strikes against Russian facilities, reiterating the importance of reducing Russia’s military capabilities. “Our plan of long-range sanctions against Russia is being implemented, and it is important that Russia’s war potential be reduced. Glory to Ukraine!” he declared.
In related developments, local authorities in Samara reported a “massive attack” which resulted in localized damage to industrial infrastructure. Ivan Noskov, head of the regional capital, mentioned that air defences had successfully repelled the assault without providing specific details on the affected facilities.
Ukraine has previously targeted the Syzran oil refinery in the southwestern region as part of its ongoing strategy to disrupt energy supply chains and pressure Russia to conclude the protracted conflict.
