Robert Jenrick will today accuse Kemi Badenoch of “sticking up two fingers” to workers by pledging to cut inheritance tax instead of income tax, reports BritPanorama.
The Reform party’s Treasury spokesman’s remarks deepen the rift between their rival parties as he claims the Tory leader is “for millionaires, not Mansfield.”
Last month, Badenoch committed to raising the personal allowance from £12,570 to £15,000, benefiting millions of workers. However, her recent conference speech included announcing an inheritance tax exemption for family homes.
In a direct response to Badenoch’s initiatives, Jenrick stated, “Kemi knows who her people are. She’s for millionaires, not Mansfield. The wealthy, not workers.” He further criticized the Conservative party, saying it is “no longer a national party” and has abandoned “millions of strivers and savers struggling right now.”
He continued, “What’s left is nothing more than a metropolitan pressure group for the wealthiest.” Jenrick pointed out that the decision to not unfreeze the income tax threshold has “punished more and more working people.”
The political tensions between Jenrick and Badenoch have been ongoing, especially after she sacked him from the Tory shadow cabinet upon learning he was plotting to defect. During her conference speech, Badenoch claimed that her party has “something for everybody,” but she refrained from announcing significant tax cuts, labeling them as “unaffordable right now.”
This ongoing exchange highlights the broader ideological battles within the Conservative party as it navigates internal fractures while attempting to address the concerns of both traditional voters and newer factions.
