A large US military aircraft arrived in Moscow on Tuesday amid heightened tensions, following a request from the US government to Ukraine to refrain from striking major Russian cities during the visit of CIA director John Ratcliffe, reports BritPanorama.
The US advised Ukraine last week against targeting Moscow, St Petersburg, and parts of northern Russia while Ratcliffe was in the country. The request was meant to cover the period of his visit, from Monday through Wednesday, and was disclosed only after Ratcliffe’s departure on Tuesday.
Flight tracking data confirmed the US military plane’s travel route from the US via Latvia to Russia. The exact objectives of Ratcliffe’s trip remain unclear. This visit is notable as it is the first by a US spy chief since his predecessor, William Burns, met with President Vladimir Putin in November 2021.
