Council meeting disrupted after Reform councillor's inappropriate microphone incident

Chaos at Blackburn and Darwen council meeting over flatulence incident

A council meeting in Blackburn and Darwen erupted in laughter and disorder after a loud fart sound disrupted proceedings, allegedly coming from a Reform UK councillor, reports BritPanorama.

The Blackburn and Darwen Council Forum meeting on October 1 was intended to provide updates to councillors and local authority members. However, the atmosphere shifted dramatically when Independent councillor for Blackburn Central, Terri Mahmood, was speaking. Suddenly, a loud noise resembling flatulence was heard from across the chamber.

The unexpected interruption, which has since been colloquially termed “fartgate,” prompted laughter from several councillors present. The attention quickly turned to Andy Mahon, a member of Reform UK, who came to the meeting wearing a distinctive leopard print fedora and matching attire.

Following the incident, the meeting, originally scheduled to last four hours, was paused for a break. As tensions began to rise, independent councillor Tasleem Fazal addressed Mahon’s conduct during the gathering. Fazal expressed concerns about decorum among elected officials, stating, “I think as elected members we all respect one another’s positions… but I think we have to respect one another.”

Fazal continued, “But I will tell you what I really take issue with is someone lifting their arse cheeks to the microphone in my direction blowing their arse out like we are at school.” These comments were aimed at emphasizing the importance of maintaining a respectful atmosphere within the council.

The independent councillor further noted, “If someone has a problem or a digestive problem there is a bathroom at the end of the corridor, but we have got to be managing this kind of stuff.” Both Cllr Mahon and the Blackburn and Darwen Council have been approached for comment.

Such incidents reflect the challenges of governance and the expectations placed on public officials regarding professional conduct. As councils navigate complex local issues, maintaining decorum becomes paramount to uphold the integrity of democratic processes.
