Moises Caicedo receives penalty for driving without valid licence

Chelsea star Moises Caicedo has been hit with an eight-point penalty and a fine for driving his £160,000 Audi without a valid licence or insurance, reports BritPanorama.

The Ecuadorian midfielder was pulled over in April 2025 after being apprehended near Chelsea’s training ground in Cobham, Surrey.

He appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court this week, where he was fined £1,444. Caicedo is now at risk of a driving ban if he accumulates 12 points within a three-year period, which would prevent him from driving for six months.

Additionally, Caicedo has been ordered to obtain a valid licence and insurance for his Audi RSQ8. The vehicle was seized at the time of the incident, with Chelsea describing the situation as a “personal matter.” The highly regarded midfielder has played only 14 minutes under manager Xabi Alonso this season, largely due to a series of injuries.

Despite his limited appearances, Caicedo is considered one of the first names on the Chelsea teamsheet when fit, contributing to a small Blues midfield featuring just five recognised players.

In discussing Caicedo’s potential, Alonso previously remarked: “From the outside, you see his quality, his heart, his mentality. I know Ecuadorian players are different. He is a top, top player, one of the best holding players in the world, no doubt.” The manager also acknowledged making a “mistake” in bringing him back too early for Chelsea’s victory over Brighton.

The Blues are currently in need of a solid performance against Bournemouth on Saturday, having displayed inconsistent form with a recent draw against newly promoted Hull City and a 3-0 loss to Brentford before the international break. As the club looks to gain stability, the return of key players like Caicedo will be crucial in their quest for points.
