Fury's manager reveals no rematch clause prior to Joshua fight in December

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua set for pivotal showdown

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will have no guaranteed second fight after their long-awaited heavyweight showdown, with the loser facing major questions about what comes next, reports BritPanorama.

The former world champions are scheduled to meet on December 11 at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. This fight marks a significant moment in their careers, which have been intertwined for years without a direct confrontation.

Fury’s manager, Spencer Brown, clarified that the agreement for the bout includes no rematch clause. “Contractually, there’s one fight. There’s one big fight. It was designed for that. I’m not saying there can’t be a second fight. But, if Tyson wins, we’d like to resume things with [Oleksandr] Usyk as well,” Brown stated to Sky Sports News.

Brown highlighted the potential fallout of this fight, noting that defeat could lead either fighter to reconsider their future in boxing, as both are nearing the end of their careers. “They’re all close to the end of their careers. Whoever loses here, where do they go? That’s a tough one. Whoever wins, the journey continues. Whoever loses, they’ve got to think about what they’re going to do and when they’re going to do it,” he added.

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, expressed hope that a rematch could still occur, provided the bout meets the expectations of fans. “No rematch clause. It’s one fight, one-off. Listen, if it’s a blockbuster, I’m sure they’ll do it again. But for our mindset, it’s one and done. Go in there, end this guy and on we go,” Hearn mentioned.

The matchup is arguably one of the defining moments for both boxers. Fury, 38, and Joshua, 36, have both held world heavyweight titles, yet this will be their first face-to-face encounter despite years of negotiations. The decision to host the fight in Cardiff came after Joshua advocated for a UK venue instead of the United States.

A victory for Fury could pave the way for a rematch with Usyk, who has defeated him twice in 2024. Conversely, Joshua will be aiming for a significant victory to revive his heavyweight ambitions.

As the December date approaches, both fighters are expected to demonstrate their determination, especially if either goes down during the bout. Hearn’s confidence resonates: “Both guys could be down in this fight but they’re so desperate to win you can guarantee they’ll be climbing and crawling off that canvas to win the fight.”

The stage is set for a clash that could redefine their legacies – a reminder of the high stakes at the pinnacle of boxing, where even titans must reckon with the fleeting nature of their glory.
