Luke Humphries claims World Grand Prix title

Luke Humphries has captured the World Grand Prix title after staging a remarkable comeback to beat Gerwyn Price 6-4 in Leicester, marking his first ranked televised major title since February 2025, reports BritPanorama.

The victory, which followed a series of major final defeats, was especially significant for the 31-year-old, who expressed eagerness to show the trophy to his young son. “I’m looking forward to taking the trophy home to my son, who can finally see his dad have another trophy and it not be a runners-up one!” he stated.

Humphries had reached five major finals without winning one since his Winmau World Masters win last year. In 2025 alone, he was runner-up at the World Grand Prix, European Championship, and Grand Slam of Darts before finishing second at both the World Masters and Premier League earlier this year. The win over Price not only marked a turning point for Humphries but also a much-needed confidence booster.

“I’m just happy to get one back. It’s nice to have that run of losses in major finals off my back,” he said, reflecting on the emotional weight lifted by this triumph.

The match began unfavorably for Humphries as he found himself trailing 3-0, prompting a crucial 105 finish in a deciding leg to avoid a further setback. Subsequently, Humphries rallied to win four consecutive sets, demonstrating resilience under pressure.

Price, who showcased exceptional skill, notably achieved a blistering average of 132.62 in the opening set, the highest in World Grand Prix history. Despite this strong performance, his wait for a major title, which extends back to 2022, continues. Following the defeat, Price has faced three consecutive losses in major finals, raising inquiries about his future prospects.

Humphries acknowledged the challenge posed by Price, praising his opponent: “Gezzy was amazing for those first three sets, absolutely insane. He is going to win a major title soon. It’s written in the stars for him; he can’t keep playing this well and not win.”

This victory secures Humphries’ second World Grand Prix title, and he becomes just the fourth player to win the tournament more than once, further establishing him as a formidable competitor in the sport.

In the end, Humphries’ journey to this win serves as a reminder of both the determination required in high-stakes competitions and the joys of personal milestones—how, in the world of darts, each title gained is a story in itself, filled with struggles and triumphs that resonate beyond the oche.
